Our Flag Means Death Wiki

Oluwande Boodhari is a side-character in Our Flag Means Death played by Samson Kayo.

Physical Appearance[]

Oluwande is a young Black man. He is chubby and wears a beard. His left ear is pierced with a teal earring.

Personality[]

Oluwande is one of the most reasonable and trustworthy people aboard the Revenge. This is noticed by his crewmates as proven by him being unanimously chosen to be the captain after the mutiny against Izzy. Even his con during the fancy party seems to be motivated by his dislike of white racist aristocrats rather than greed as he gives all the money it made him to Abshir.

History[]

Oluwande has joined Stede Bonnet's crew along with Jim Jimenez, some time before the events of Pilot.

When Stede and Blackbeard attend the French party, Oluwande and Frenchie go with them. Oluwande poses as the Crown Prince Azi of Egypt with Frenchie posing as his viceroy. They create a pyramid scheme and earn a lot of money off the naive aristocrats, which he then gives to a slave called Abshir.

When Stede and Blackbeard sign the Act of Grace and Izzy takes control of the Revenge, Oluwande is chosen to be the new captain when the crew vote to mutiny. When Blackbeard comes back on board after being abandoned by Stede, he strands most of Stede's crew on a desert island, Oluwande being one of them.

Relationships[]

Stede Bonnet[]

Oluwande doesn't have the highest opinion of Stede, whom he considers incompetent, even to the point of considering a mutiny. Despite this, he appreciates that Stede treats the crew well, paying them a wage regardless of whether they manage to capture any treasure or not.

Jim Jimenez[]

Oluwande seems to have been in love with Jim from before they both joined Stede's crew, but unwilling or unable to voice his feelings for quite some time. It is for Jim that Olu refuses the Tribal Elder's invitation to stay on the Mabo Island, despite knowing he is putting himself in danger. He is eager to learn about Jim and pushes them to open a little during their trip to St. Augustine. When Jim decides to stay behind and pursue vengeance on their family's killers, Oluwande is so heartbroken he gives up the room the two of them shared. Upon Jim's return, the two can't hide their feelings for each other any longer and share a passionate kiss. They are later seen cuddling when Lucius walks in on them by mistake. When Olu and the crew are taken to a desert island - supposedly to put on a talent show - Oluwande is clearly distressed Jim isn't there.

Frenchie[]

Oluwande and Frenchie get along very well. During their outing to the fancy party, they devise a scheme aimed at conning the aristocrats out of their money.

Izzy Hands[]

Like all of Stede's crew, Oluwande dislikes Izzy due to his disciplinarian nature and insistence on following orders. He reluctantly agrees to become the ship's captain when the crew mutiny against Izzy.

The Mabo Tribe[]

Oluwande is friendly with the Tribe to the point of being offered drinks while Stede and Black Pete are being kept in a cage. This is in part caused by Olu not being white, which instantly makes him trustworthy for the Tribe, but they seem to genuinely like him as well, and the Elder even offers him a place in the Tribe if he decides to stay.
