Black Pete is a character in Our Flag Means Death played by Matthew Maher.
Physical Appearance[]
Black Pete is bald. He wears a simple hoop earring in his right ear and a horseshoe attached to his belt.
History[]
Black Pete is a member of Stede Bonnet's crew. He claims to have worked for Blackbeard at one point, although most of his crewmates are doubtful whether that's actually true.
When the Revenge gets beached on the Mabo Island, Pete accompanies Stede and Oluwande on their quest to retrieve Officer Hornberry and Officer Wellington who run away into the jungle. They are captured by the Mabo tribe but eventually released when the natives decide they pose no threat due to their incompetence. Pete then takes part in an ambush on Izzy Hands and his men, who had bought the English officers from the Tribe.
He plays a minor role in Stede's fuckery meant to frighten the Dutch in the expedition to St. Augustine to find oranges that would keep the crew safe from scurvy. When Stede and Blackbeard take the Act of Grace, Pete becomes Izzy's first mate, although he turns on him when the rest of the crew decide to mutiny, claiming he never officially accepted the position. After Blackbeard takes back control of the Revenge following being abandoned by Stede, Pete is stranded on a desert island along with most of the crew

Stede Bonnet[]
Pete realizes Stede isn't a very good pirate and wants to mutiny early on. Despite this, he slowly comes to appreciate Stede's particular way of doing things.
Blackbeard[]
Pete idolizes Blackbeard and sees him more as a legend than a real man. He claims to have sailed with Edward, although this story is almost certainly untrue. When Blackbeard leaves the ship in Blind Man's Cove, Pete admits to Stede that he sees himself more as Blackbeard's employee than his.
Izzy Hands[]
Pete dislikes Izzy, particularly after Izzy interrupts his intimate moment with Lucius, although he is not as vocal in his dislike as Lucius is. When Lucius refuses to be intimidated by Izzy and uses the "Izzy the Spewer" story against the first mate, Pete is clearly satisfied to see Izzy humiliated. Despite this, he agrees to become the first mate on "Izzy's Revenge" before turning on Izzy when the rest of the crew decide to mutiny.
Lucius Spriggs[]
Lucius and Pete are lovers, although it's not clear when their relationship began. They are open about their relationship and claim to like having an audience during sex. When Lucius cuts off his finger, Pete whittles him a wooden prosthetic, and the two kiss. It appears that their relationship isn't exclusive.
