When Stede gave him the book with the picture of Blackbeard, he seemed to know immediately that it was about him, without needing clarification. He also seemed to understand the name card that said 'Sir Godfrey Thornrose' in episode five, and knew about leap years and cloud formations. Considering how no one else on the crew knew about this, it is reasonably unlikely he simply learned this through word-of-mouth.

Besides, the real-life Blackbeard could 'almost certainly' read and write, and his mother's possession of the handkerchief makes me think she was a servant or something at the Carmody estate. Going off that, he probably could have taught himself to read from books she smuggled out for him the same way as she did with that handkerchief.

I just finished the first season of "Our Flag Means Death" - loved it!

My question is, does anyone remember an old 2000's show "Jack of All Trades"? I'd love to compare and contrast some of the campy comedy between the two shows.

(I also want to write a million crossover fics.)
